About MingleReview

A comparison site for people deciding which dating app to use, written so that two apps can be read against each other rather than in isolation.

The question this site answers

Most dating app coverage answers the question of whether to leave an app. This site answers the question that comes before that one: which app should you install in the first place. That means the useful material is a comparison, and a comparison only works if every app is described in the same terms and the same order.

So the roster is fixed, the questions are the same for all of them, and the reasoning is on the page. If a review says one app is built for something another app is not, you can install both and check.

Who writes it

MingleReview is written and maintained by Elliot Sandoval, who covers dating apps and how they are built. The author page sets out what is covered and how the research is done.

How the roster was chosen

The ten apps here are the mainstream ones: the apps someone is likely to encounter when they search for a dating app at all. That is a deliberately narrow criterion. There are hundreds of smaller apps, and their usefulness depends entirely on how many people near you have installed one. That number is local, it changes, and it is invisible from the outside, which is why a small app is hard to recommend or dismiss from a desk.

A small app is not something a review can assess from the outside, because its usefulness changes with where the reader lives. The apps whose mechanics can be checked by installing them are the ones here.

Three things this site refuses to do

It does not print subscription prices. The figures change by country, by age and by the week, and a stale figure is a false claim about a real company. It describes the structure of each paywall instead, which is the part that stays still.

It does not publish scores. A number out of five hides the reasoning that matters, and it invites comparisons between apps built for different people. Where one app is better than another, the reason is written out.

It does not accept payment for placement. No app can buy a higher position in a list on this site or a friendlier sentence in a review. If commercial links are ever added, they will be labeled, and the disclosure page says what that would mean in practice.
